Full ViewR-MEN HISTORY
In March 1962, following the untimely death of Assistant Football Coach Allan Horn, some 21 former Reitz lettermen met to discuss the feasibility of establishing a Memorial award in the name of the late Reitz line coach. Mr. Horn coached with the legendary Herman Byers from 1948 through 1961. When the scholarship was first presented, it was identified as the Allan Horn Memorial Scholarship. Some 20 years later, following the death of Coach Jim Barnett, the scholarship was renamed the Allan Horn-James Barnett Memorial Scholarship. Coach Barnett not only was a very successful basketball coach, he was a former President of the R-Men Varsity Club and an inductee into the R-Men Honor Roll. Any young man or lady fortunate enough to be selected for this scholarship will always be linked with two of the finest teachers and coaches to grace the halls of F.J. Reitz High School.
